During Archimatos's research, a few question arises:
- Is Psyker's 2nd hit (i.e. Smite) a ranged attack?
- Can Smite trigger Let the Galaxy Burn (LtGB)?
If Smite is a ranged attack, Pestillian's passive can be triggered twice in 1 attack, increasing its effectiveness.
Experiment Design
Testing if Smite is a ranged attack
- Mission Counter
- There are missions that require kills in ranged attacks
- By checking if kills from Smite count into mission counter, we can confirm if it counts as ranged attack
Testing if Smite can trigger LtGB
- Only by trial and error can this be achieved
Stage selection
- Fall of Cadia: Battle 5 and Fall of Cadia: Battle 29
- More Cadian Vox Casters, more Cadian Guardmen for testing
- Stages have to be easy enough to speed up testing
Results
Attacks can be distinguished via its visual effect
- Normal attack has an orange spark effect
- Smite attack has a blue spark effect
- LtGB has blood-spilling effect without sparks
Testing if Smite is a ranged attack
- Trial 1 - Battle 5
- Mission counter: 11 to 18 = 7 ranged kills
- 2 from attacks
- 0 from LtGB
- 2 from smites
- 3 from flee
- Total = 7
- Trial 2 - Battle 29
- Mission counter: 18 to 28 = 10 ranged kills
- 4 from attacks
- 1 from LtGB
- 2 from smites
- 3 from flee
- Total = 10
- Trial 3 - Battle 29
- Mission counter: 28 to 44 = 16 ranged kills
- 5 from attacks
- 1 from LtGB
- 1 from smites
- 9 from flee
- Total = 16
- Conclusion
- All attacks are ranged attacks, including Smite and LtGB
- Fleeing enemies are counted as defetas
Testing if Smite can trigger LtGB
- In illustration below, a single ranged attack defeats 4 enemies. summoning 4 bloodletters
- Ranged attack: 1 kill
- Smite: 1 kill
- LtGB: 2 kills (1 from ranged attack, 1 from Smite)
- Note - LtGB cannot trigger LtGB
- It is possible to trigger LtGB with Smite
- It is possible to trigger LtGB in both ranged hit and Smite hit
